Yeşilkent: Tranquil Seaside Resort Near Altınkum, Turkey

Yesilkent is a coastal village on the Aegean coast of Turkey that for years remained off the usual tourist radar. It was a peaceful retreat, known mainly to locals, expats and the occasional traveler who discovered it through blogs and forums. The area offered a handful of beaches, a few simple restaurants and a relaxed pace of life—until the opening of the Venosa Beach Resort in May.

The new hotel dominates the skyline and brings a markedly different presence to the town. Operating as an all-inclusive resort, Venosa Beach Resort offers modern comforts and a wide range of facilities. With 306 rooms and amenities that include dining venues, leisure areas and entertainment such as a disco, the property represents a major development in a place that until recently felt small and intimate. Its arrival has already begun to change Yesilkent’s character.

Before the resort, Yesilkent was home to a mix of locals and expats seeking a quieter lifestyle. Many residents have holiday homes here, enjoying shaded, tree-lined streets and friendly neighborhood interactions. The village’s understated charm and lack of flashy tourist traps made it appealing to those who prefer a more authentic, relaxed seaside experience. With the resort now in place, it is likely that new bars, restaurants and shops will open to serve guests, shifting the local economy and atmosphere.

About Yesilkent on the West Coast of Turkey

In summer I often drive to Blue restaurant in Yesilkent for a leisurely Turkish breakfast, then stroll along the shoreline. Those simple rituals leave me feeling relaxed and refreshed—the kind of place that has an unmistakable “feel-good” quality. Yesilkent has largely escaped the crowded, commercial developments that affect many coastal resorts, and that makes it comfortable for foreigners who come to stay or buy property.

Expats are drawn by the village’s peaceful streets, shaded by trees, and by neighbors who still greet one another. The local lifestyle is welcoming without being intrusive, and that balance has been the main appeal for residents and visitors alike.

Admittedly, I feel a sense of loss about this transformation. The scale and style of the new resort will change the area’s atmosphere, and for someone who cherished Yesilkent as a quiet getaway, that change is difficult to accept. While development can bring local economic benefits, it also alters the character that made the place special. For now, I mourn the quieter version of Yesilkent even as I acknowledge that change is inevitable.
