Uyku Valley: Discovering the Sleeping Valley’s Hidden Wonders

Uyku Vadisi, which literally means “Sleeping Valley” in Turkish, is a peaceful, scenic retreat that perfectly lives up to its name. My visit on a spontaneous Sunday reinforced my belief that the best days are often unplanned. I joined some Turkish friends who were heading to Bafa Lake for breakfast, and their suggestion to continue on to Uyku Vadisi turned a simple morning outing into a memorable day of nature and relaxation.

Despite being a tourist destination, Uyku Vadisi remains relatively unknown outside the local area; it rarely appears in English guidebooks and keeps a low profile even within Turkey. That quiet charm is part of its appeal. The site offers simple, affordable overnight stays in chalets—at the time of my visit the cost for two people was 75TL, which included an organic Turkish breakfast. Visiting for the day is equally inviting: you can relax by the pool, explore the grounds, or simply soak in the tranquil atmosphere.

The resort emphasizes relaxation, good food, and enjoying nature. A trek through the surrounding countryside leads to a picturesque lagoon, though the walk can be challenging in places. On my own trek I quickly learned that footwear matters—my two-inch heels were far from ideal—and I had to turn back when the trail narrowed and drops appeared alongside the path. Still, for those prepared to hike, the landscape and photo opportunities are rewarding.

If trekking isn’t your preference, there are other ways to unwind: a public swimming pool and a small waterfall nicknamed the “Massage and Stress Room” offer soothing spots to relax. The resort’s restaurant serves meals and refreshments throughout the day. For fish lovers, one charming option is to catch your own fish from the river that runs through the property and have the staff cook it for you. After my countryside walk I was hungry, so I let the staff handle the fishing—within half an hour a freshly prepared fish arrived at my table, accompanied by a cold beer.

If you find yourself in the Milas area, Uyku Vadisi is well worth a visit. Its combination of calm scenery, simple comforts, and local hospitality makes it an excellent spot to enjoy the Turkish countryside, whether you stay overnight in a chalet or spend a leisurely day exploring the grounds.
