On the Turkish Travel Blog I often spend free time exploring and sharing travel observations. While reviewing recent official tourism statistics from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, I created a visual summary to make the data easier to understand. Turning those numbers into a clear image helped highlight several noteworthy trends about tourism in Turkey.
The official figures reveal some surprising facts. For example, the assumed dominance of British holidaymakers is less pronounced than many believe. Turkey has set ambitious targets for its tourism sector through 2023, and projected revenues from the industry are substantial.
If you think the British dominate the tourism scene, reality is far from that.
Did you know that Turkey has big plans for the tourism industry to be completed by 2023?

Tourism in Turkey: Plans for the Future
There are a few current considerations affecting the tourism outlook.
Over the past few weeks I have received increased traffic, emails, and messages on social platforms asking whether people should cancel trips to Turkey because of events in neighbouring Syria. My consistent reply has been to encourage visitors to come. Turkey is a large and diverse country; here on the Aegean coast daily life continues as normal. That said, some travellers may have chosen alternative destinations, and that can influence local bookings.
Some resorts have faced challenges. Didim, which has been highlighted in media and social discussions, began a beachfront renovation over the winter to modernize the area. The project remains unfinished, and a major UK operator has advised customers to select other destinations. On one social group a guest reported their booking being moved to Tunisia.
Despite these setbacks, I remain optimistic. Turkey has continued to promote itself at international tourism fairs and remains a strong contender in the global market. The country’s strategic efforts, infrastructure investments, and diverse attractions—coastlines, cultural heritage, cuisine and hospitality—support its long-term potential.
I wish everyone working in Turkey’s tourism industry a productive and profitable summer.
