Top 12 Things to Do in Antalya: Must-See Sights & Activities

Turkey has many attractions, and Antalya stands out as the country’s second most visited destination after Istanbul. Stretching along an extensive coastline, the Antalya region includes a variety of smaller holiday resorts as well as an energetic city centre, offering a wide range of activities and sights to enjoy.

My first trip to Antalya was in 2004 while working as a holiday rep, and I returned in 2010 for a month-long journey along the coast from Kemer to Fethiye. Even after those visits there is still much I want to see, so another trip is on my list. Below is a practical, experience-based list of things to do in Antalya, including attractions I’ve visited and others I recommend. Where relevant I’ve noted official sites and practical details, such as opening times or location, to help with planning.

Things to Do in Antalya

Kaleiçi Old Town and Hadrian’s Gate

What to do in Antalya

Kaleiçi, the historic quarter of Antalya, is a peaceful contrast to the modern city centre. Wandering its narrow streets you’ll find the ornate Hadrian’s Gate, Ottoman-style houses, seaside restaurants and bars, and small shops selling local souvenirs. The Kaleiçi Museum offers displays that evoke everyday life from earlier periods, and nearby Yivli Minare Mosque, dating from the 13th century, is an excellent example of Seljuk architecture.

Düden and Manavgat Waterfalls

About 12 kilometres northeast of Antalya are the Düden Waterfalls, set in shaded greenery that makes them a refreshing escape on hot days. The cool mist and serene surroundings are a pleasant break from the city. There’s a small entry fee, but it’s a modest price for the setting. Further along the coast, the Manavgat Waterfalls remain a popular nature spot and a regular stop on many day tours, offering broad cascades and peaceful picnic areas.

Antalya Museum

The Antalya Museum, located roughly two kilometres west of Kaleiçi, is closed on Mondays but otherwise a must-see. Its Hall of Gods houses statues of Roman deities, while other rooms display sarcophagi and finds from nearby ancient sites such as Perge. The museum is widely regarded as one of Turkey’s finest and gives excellent context to the region’s rich archaeological heritage.

Lara Beach Sandland: One For The Kids

Lara Beach hosts Sandland, a large annual sand sculpture festival where artists create huge, themed works using only sand and water. The sculptures remain on display through the summer, making this a fun, family-friendly attraction that combines creativity with the beach atmosphere.

Mount Tahtalı (Olympos Teleferik)

Things to do in Antalya

Mount Tahtalı offers a dramatic “sea to sky” experience. A cable car climbs to 2,365 metres, where you’ll find panoramic views, a restaurant and photo opportunities. From the summit you can admire the Taurus Mountains on one side and the Mediterranean coastline on the other. For the adventurous, paragliding down from the summit is also available.

Resort Hop the D400

The D400 coastal road links many of Antalya’s resorts, making it ideal for a multi-day drive. Hiring a car for several days lets you explore coastal towns from Alanya to Kas. While some resorts like Belek focus on golf and Kemer may not appeal to everyone, places such as Side—with its Temple of Apollo—and Çıralı, with its relaxed village atmosphere, are worth visiting.

Aspendos and Termessos

Antalya What to do and see

Aspendos is world-famous for one of the best-preserved Roman theatres, still used today for concerts thanks to its remarkable acoustics. Termessos, located in the Güllük Mountain National Park, sits on a high rocky outcrop and features ruins including an agora, water cisterns and an ancient theatre. Both sites provide memorable insights into the region’s ancient past.

Konyaaltı Beach

Konyaaltı is one of Antalya’s main beaches and stretches for about seven kilometres. Lined with cafes, bars and shops, it’s popular with families and visitors looking for a lively beach environment. Nearby attractions include miniature exhibits that recreate famous Turkish landmarks, offering an easy, family-orientated day out.

Antalya Aquarium

A relatively recent addition to the region, Antalya Aquarium is one of the larger aquarium complexes in the world and has received strong reviews from visitors. It offers a varied marine collection and an engaging indoor experience, especially suitable for families and those seeking an all-weather attraction.

Çıralı and Olympos: Burning Flames and Ancient Ruins

Antalya things to do

Çıralı and Olympos are neighbouring coastal villages sharing a long pebbly beach used by loggerhead turtles for nesting. Olympos attracts budget travellers and backpackers, while Çıralı offers a quieter, village-like atmosphere. Both are gateways to the forested ruins of ancient Olympos and the nearby chimera flames—eternal fires that emerge from the rock. Visiting at night is especially atmospheric when the flames are most visible.

Ancient Phaselis

Historical things to do in Antalya

Phaselis is an ancient harbour city set in a sheltered bay with both sandy and pebbly beaches. Dating back to the 7th century BC, its ruins include an agora, shops, aqueduct and a small theatre tucked among trees. Phaselis combines historical exploration with swimming and beach time, making it a favourite for families and those who enjoy mixing culture with relaxation.

Historic Sites Along the Lycian Way

The Lycian Way is a long-distance trail that begins near Antalya and continues to Fethiye. Stretching about 320 miles, it’s considered one of the world’s great coastal walks, tracing remote coastal scenery and ancient sites that are often inaccessible by car. The full route is challenging and best avoided in mid-summer heat, but sections can be hiked or cycled depending on your fitness and interests. For travellers who prefer less trekking, it’s also possible to visit many historic points along the route using local transport between resorts.

Antalya blends coastal scenery, ancient history and modern leisure facilities, offering something for every traveller—whether you prefer relaxed beach days, mountain vistas, archaeological exploration or family-friendly attractions. Plan your time to match your interests, and you’ll find Antalya rewards repeated visits with fresh discoveries.
