Phaselis Ruins

Phaselis is more than golden sand and sea. It was an active seaport from the 7th century BC, and unlike many ancient coastal sites that are now inland, Phaselis still sits beside the water. That continuity makes exploring its ruins especially rewarding: ancient streets, baths and houses remain in close proximity to the shoreline.

Many ruins around Turkey lie inland because the shoreline changed over centuries, but Phaselis has preserved its coastal position. You can start at one beach, follow the main harbor street past ruined shops and public buildings, and finish at the other beach for a swim in the clear Mediterranean.

Walking through Phaselis gives a strong sense of daily life in its heyday. The layout is orderly and purposeful: long water channels, a circular theatre and several agoras arranged around the main harbor street, all framed by views of the blue sea and sandy coves.

You don’t need a guide to enjoy the site. Informational panels at the entrance and at key points around the ruins explain the layout and history, letting you explore at your own pace while understanding what you see.

Phaselis: Additional Information

There are no cafes or shops immediately next to the ruins or beaches, so bring your own water and snacks. Occasionally a boat vendor sells refreshments on the bay, but expect higher prices due to the limited competition.

How to Get to Phaselis

Phaselis is accessible from the Antalya coastal highway by local transport. The turn-off lies between the resorts of Cirali and Kemer; from the road you’ll need to walk roughly 1 km to reach the site entrance. Wear comfortable shoes for the walk and for exploring the ruins.

If you prefer not to walk in, many boat tours call at Phaselis and dock in the bay for a couple of hours, giving enough time to stroll among the ruins and relax on the beaches.
