One of my favourite rituals is to sit down at the end of the day with an ice-cold beer and watch the sun sink below the horizon. Certain places in Turkey are renowned for their sunsets, and photographers often gather at those spots hoping to capture the perfect moment.
A glowing orange sky slipping behind mountains or melting into the sea can make anyone pause, camera in hand or not. When I’m sober enough, I like to lift my camera and try to preserve that instant.
Photos of Sunsets in Turkey
Yalikavak : Bodrum
Yalıkavak is a small fishing resort on the Aegean coast. Often overshadowed by its better-known neighbour, Yalıkavak still offers stunning evenings and I managed to capture a sunset here that remains one of my favourites.

Turgutreis
Turgutreis sits next to Yalıkavak and is often celebrated for its sunsets. Along the waterfront you’ll find numerous restaurants where you can settle in with a drink and wait for the sky to perform.

Bodrum
Bodrum benefits from being nestled around a bay, so the sun often disappears behind distant mountains. Even after it slips below the peaks, the sky lingers with vivid reds and warm orange tones that make the scene unforgettable.

Altinkum
This photo was taken from the ferry on the return trip from Bodrum. The changing light over the water creates a calm, reflective atmosphere perfect for watching the day end.

Rose Valley, Cappadocia
The first photos here were shot along the Aegean coast, but Cappadocia in central Turkey also boasts remarkable sunsets. At Rose Valley I felt a little out of my depth beside professional photographers with their high-end gear. They were welcoming, shared some tips, and told me I had chosen the off-season—apparently in summer the sky can turn entirely red, making a truly dramatic display.

These scenes are just a sample of Turkey’s beautiful evenings. Watching the sunset is a simple pleasure that highlights the varied landscapes and coastal charms found across the country.
