I spend a lot of time eating out for several reasons. First, I tend to think food tastes better when someone else has prepared it. Second, I can’t cook very well. Third, I’m often too lazy to cook. I admit it — I’m no master chef, and I’m always looking for new places to try. When the floating restaurant Giritli was recommended to me, I knew I had to visit.
We set off toward the small coastal resort of Kazikli on the Aegean coast. After a brief detour and a little getting lost, we found Giritli. Since this isn’t an ordinary restaurant, I decided to write a short review to share the experience.
The Floating Restaurant of Giritli in Kazikli Akbuk
Pick-Up Service: We didn’t use the pick-up service because we had our own transport. However, if you enjoy retro charm or want a touch of nostalgia, the restaurant’s pick-up—delivered in a small boat—adds to the experience and suits anyone who likes a trip back in time.
Ambience and Décor: Giritli’s concept is simple and effective: guests sit on a floating pontoon and are taken out onto the water. The true décor is provided by the surroundings — calm waters, verdant hills and open skies create a peaceful, natural dining room.
Service and Staff: Service requires a bit of coordination because the dining platforms float while the kitchen and facilities are on land. Staff ferry orders and drinks by boat. At first we worried about how ordering would work; the waiter had forgotten the small radio used to call for service, so he rowed out to deliver it himself. After that, ordering was straightforward. Watching the crew row back and forth shows how committed they are to keeping guests comfortable, so service felt personal and attentive.
Food: The menu is deliberately simple: choices include chicken, fish or meatballs. This isn’t fine dining, and Giritli doesn’t pretend to be. I chose fish, which arrived quickly via the rowing boat. The food was fresh and satisfying, matching the rustic, relaxed tone of the venue.
Toilet Facilities: Restrooms are located on land and are clean. Because of the distance, it’s best not to wait until the last minute: you request a pick-up by radio, a staff member rows you to the shore, and then returns you to your table. This boat escort is part of the novelty and adds to the overall charm.
Overall Opinion: Giritli is worth visiting for its novelty and atmosphere. The floating dining platforms, sea air, pleasant views and approachable food make for a memorable outing. If you enjoy relaxed, outdoor dining and don’t expect a formal restaurant experience, Giritli delivers a unique and enjoyable day by the water.
